Owls reserves seal Stockbridge win Wednesday are more convincing winners than the scoreline suggests, after creating several opportunities to record a much more comfortable victory. Wednesday deservedly led at half-time after thoroughly dominating their semi-professional opponents. After captain Paul McLaren went close to opening the scoring three times in the first 12 minutes, Leon Knight put the Owls ahead at the end of a four-man move midway through the half. The hosts hit back with their only shot of the half three minutes later, before Sicilian Michele Di Piedi sizzled home a well-struck drive from the inside-right channel to restore Wednesday's advantage. Half-time: Stocksbridge 1-2 Owls Martin Hodge took the opportunity to blood several Academy hopefuls as their hosts tired in the second half. Six of Jimmy Shoulder's youth squad were blooded - including 16-year-old goalkeeper Adam Ogden - in addition to defender Richard Wood, who played the entire 90 minutes. One of the youngsters, Lewis McMahon, sparked the half into life just seconds after entering the action, bursting into the penalty area only to shoot wide when striker Matt Shaw was waiting for a pass. McLaren wasted a glorious opportunity to make it three when sidefooting wide after leaving himself one-on-one with Holmshaw. But Owen Morrison sealed the win three minutes from time when he cut in from the left to launch a trademark curler into the top corner.
