Owls comeback to draw with Canaries

Never-say-die Sheffield Wednesday fought back from the brink to rescue a crucial point following second-half goals from Carl Robinson and Alan Quinn as they forced a 2-2 draw against Norwich at Hillsborough.

Trailing 2-0 at the break and with relegation rivals Brighton cruising towards a shock home win over Wolves, boss Chris Turner worked wonders at the half-time interval to inspire a thrilling Wednesday fightback.

Robinson powered home a header early in the second half and Quinn struck with 15 minutes to go to set up another grandstand Hillsborough finish.

Turner's side were rocked back on their heels in the 18th minute when the Canaries' on-loan Preston striker David Healy scored his first goal for Norwich against the run of play. And Roberts headed home the second following a prolonged spell of Norwich pressure to send the crestfallen Owls in two-down at the break.

In the pre-match build-up Turner insisted the same players who were humbled last week by Wolves deserved another chance and he named an unchanged starting line-up with striker Lloyd Owusu again poised on the bench.

Midfielder Mark Rivers missed out for Norwich with an abdominal strain, but Phil Mulryne shook off a virus in time to step in as a straight replacement. Following a cagey start by two sides low on confidence it took 15 minutes before the Owls forced Robert Green into the first save, the City keeper holding Allan Johnston's cross.

But although Robinson forced Green into action again with a cross-cum-shot that was well held, it was the Canaries who broke the deadlock. With their first real passing move of the match Norwich swept forward to deliver Turner's struggling side a psychological blow, Healy sweeping home left-footed from the edge of the box.

Paul McVeigh almost made it two when he connected first time with Healy's cross only to see Pressman block his volley. Wednesday's heads went down following the opening goal and Norwich went onto dominate, McVeigh pulling the strings in midfield before Nigel Worthington's side carved open the home defence again.

Gary Holt and Healy combined in a sweeping move that saw the latter's pin-point cross headed home at the far post by Roberts two minutes before the break.

Half-time: Owls 0-2 Norwich

Shefki Kuqi headed narrowly over from a Danny Maddix cross immediately after the restart and repeated the feat soon after from Quinn's corner as Wednesday sought a way back. Both Robinson and Johnston had long range efforts saved by Green, but the former gave Wednesday hope in the 66th minute.

Johnston fired over a corner and the on-loan Portsmouth midfielder powered his header beyond keeper Green. Kuqi then saw another header blocked, this time from Brian Barry-Murphy's cross, but there was no denying Quinn, who fired home his third goal of the season from 20 yards to get the Owls on level terms.

Late substitute Lloyd Owusu pulled his shot wide from the edge of the area and Johnston fired over the bar as the home side looked to snatch all three points, with Quinn having another goalbound 20-yarder blocked by a scrambling Norwich defence.
