Crewe gain revenge in the cup This report from TeamTalk: Steve Foster headed a 67th-minute winner as Crewe defeated Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 in the FA Cup third round at Gresty Road tonight.Ben Rix had fired The Railwaymen in front in the 12th minute, but their joy was short-lived when Matthew Hamshaw levelled matters ten minutes later. However, Foster popped up at the far post to head the home side back into the lead and Crewe held on to book their place in the next round. Wednesday should have taken the lead after five minutes but Gerald Sibon shot wide when well placed on the edge of the penalty area. The miss proved costly when, seven minutes later, Rix slotted home from six yards out following a cross from the right by Rodney Jack. Two minutes later Marlon Broomes forced a fine save from Ademole Bankole but Wednesday were back on level terms in the 22nd minute. Hamshaw ran on to a superb ball from Sibon before lobbing the ball over the on-rushing Bankole to send the travelling fans wild. Crewe looked odds on to go back in front in the 31st minute but Jack's shot was saved by the legs of Kevin Pressman.] Half-time: Crewe 1-1 Owls The Railwaymen came out fighting in the second-half and Pressman did well to save a 25-yard drive from David Wright just after the re-start, before Lee Bromby cleared a Rob Hulse shot off the line ten minutes later. Crewe were finally rewarded for their pressure with 20 minutes to go when Shaun Smith's corner was met by Foster and he headed the ball home to put Alex back into the lead. The Owls pressed forward in search of an equaliser but Paul McLaren's shot hit the angle of post and bar, while Efan Ekoku somehow contrived to fire over from just six yards out with just Bankole to beat. Dario Gradi's side will now play the winners of either Rotherham or Southampton in the fourth round of the competition
