  • pipocanocopo:

I read this history, so I already know how this ends =p
Anyway, it’s worth watching, because it is beautifully done

  • SayVarRee:

This is amazing. Loved the shot on the plank of his feet and the underwater shots seem so ahead of their time.

Notice the complete abscence of a musical score, not to mention very few words said. It works brilliantly!

  • hnksnw:

    This is so great.

  • ShawDAMAN:

Always considered this a remarkable film. My father remembers this being shown in school when he was a young kid.

  • calico992:

Whats really cool about this is to click on another youtube video with music i.e. Mahler 5th symphony adagietto for strings, and to watch with the sceneary. There really isn’t much dialog so it works…

  • bdienstag:

Another Ambrose Bierce story The Mockingbird, was also made into a beautiful short film. I don’t see it here. Anyone know where I can find it?

This film is the reason I fell in love with the cinema. I was 12 when I saw it and it blew my mind, in parlance of the time. Amazing!!!

  • bdienstag:

Saw this in 7th grade English 37 years ago. This the first that I’m seeing it again. I never forgot this

    Firing squad, not range.

But no, he was to be hung. The Damned Yankees didn’t like wasting bullets on Rebels.

Interesting background story here. My friend Bill Froug was the producer of the last season of the Twilight Zone. This was the last show of that season because they were $25,000 over budget for the year when Froug found “An Occurrance…” was available for $10,000. Since the per show budget was $35,000, putting “Occurance” in at the end slot not only gave them a terrific finale, it also solved the year’s budget problem.
